What to do with plastic bottles, tubs, cups and jars

Various plastic containers for cleaning products, food and beverage

Plastic bottles, tubs, jars and cups displaying the resin codes #1, #2, #4, and #5 can be recycled curbside or at a Kansas City recycling center. Please make sure contents are emptied out first. Examples of each include:

  • Bottles - milk, water, juice, detergent, shampoo
  • Tubs - sour cream, yogurt, Cool Whip, cottage cheese, deli tubs
  • Jars - peanut butter, mayonnaise
  • Cups - many fast food to-go cups (double-check for resin codes #1 or #5). Be sure to discard lids, straws and stirrers.
